Rushmore (4) and Jerome (41)
“I hate selfies with dogs, but Rushmore is so photogenic that I have tons of pictures of him”. Jerome tries to make up for his busy week schedule by spending all his time in the weekends with Rushmore, a 4,5 year old Hungarian Vizsla. Last summer Jerome decided he wanted to learn...
Nola (2) & Rebecca (42)
“Two years ago I got Nola and she was only ‘this small’”. Rebecca shows me an imaginary puppy in her hands. “I always wanted my own dog, just to keep me company. My dad wanted to share a dog with me because he used to hunt and so we decided on Nola, a tiny German Shorthaired Pointer puppy...
Junior (3) & Rex (48)
As a kid he moved with his parents to Australia. Their new next-door neighbour had a smart black and white sheep dog. From that moment on Rex fell in love with the energetic spirit of the breed. Years later he got his own: Cookie. When he moved back to Hong Kong he brought Cookie with him and...
Joey (9) and Elliot (41)
‘He is friendly! He is friendly! He is friendly!’ Every body in the street looks up at this big guy yelling down the steps with a smile from ear to ear. His dog, a black/brown mongrel charges down like he owns the place.
One morning Elliot woke up after a night out in town. His goal that day was to go...
Monnay (5) and Jacqueline (38)
When I met Jacqueline the first thing she told me about Monnay is how she eats everything. And the first thing she shows me is the massive amount of snacks she caries with her for Monnay.
Many Hong Kong families own and run factories over the boarder in China Jaqueline explains. Her family is no different and they own and run a metal...
Katrina and Rob live in Kennedy Town in Hong Kong and since getting together they have adopted 4 dogs: Betty Spaghetti, Crotch Rocket, Flash Gordon & Willy Vanilly.
They adopted Betty Spaghetti (lifted in the middle) after seeing her face on the LAP (Life Long Animal Protection Charity) website. Betty is thought to have been used for breeding and had very bad skin as well as a lot of uncertainty about how to play, jump or walk on lead after years in a cage. Every time she tried to jump, she would flip over and fall on here back. Luckily, she adapted to her new home quickly and is now a hilarious fun loving dog.....
Panda (1,5) and Ryan (26)
Ryan and Panda were walking along the water in Hong Kong when I asked if I could take a picture. They were more than willing and walked with me to a more neutral background. Ryan told me that when he first saw Panda, it was love at first sight. But Panda is still very young, he always wants to play and run around and he used to be very naughty and was a bad listener. But after Ryan hired a dog trainer for 4 times and Panda is a lot better behaved ever since. "See," he says pround, "..now I ask him to sit for you and and he does that very patiently". His is now so well behaved that the helper can walk Panda 2 times a day, and always when Ryan comes home he takes Panda running outside.
Sam(6) & Francis(60)
On my way home at dusk I saw this beautiful image of a man standing calmly at the public cargo pier in Hong Kong writing a massage on his phone. His dog is lying patiently next to him enjoying the breeze and looking at the passers by.
Apparently they never have dinner together, and there is nothing exciting or special about their relationship. But for the last 6 years Francis has been taking Sam to the pier every night after work. When I asked about their story, Francis thinks for a bit and replies mindfully: "Story? There is no story. We are just good friends”.
Little Bee (3) & Zac (30)
Zac never intended to have a dog, because his mum never allowed pets in the house. Xiao Bee (this translates into little Bee) was bought by his ex girlfriend. She bought him on a whim, like many HK girls do he explains to me. After they had split up, Zac noticed that his ex was not taking good care of Bee and that she was not spending time with him. So Zac took him to his place. His mum was a bit upset when he did this, but after 2 weeks she was the one who loved him the most. In Hong Kong Zac is not allowed to bring Bee to bars and restaurants, but as a barista at The Coffee Academics, everybody knows him there and although rare, sometimes he can take Bee. No matter how good or bad his day was, coming home to Bee makes Zac his day.

Oxy (2) & JP (48)
JP got Oxy (derived from Oxygen) when his landlord had a litter of mutts. Although none of his siblings made it, Oxy is probably the healthiest dog in the little village of Moalboal (Philippines) and one of the few who is neutered and had all his shots. As a free dive centre mascot Oxy greets everyone who comes into the shop with a friendly look and then turns around a lays down as close to JP as he can. JP brings Oxy everywhere he goes. "The only place where Oxy doesn't come with me is under water. And he is not allowed is on the bed. Instead he just puts his head on the edge and scratches me until I get out. If I ever move again, I will definitely find a way to bring him”.
Living in Cebu in the Philippines, the Belgian JP runs a free dive training centre teaching people how to comfortably hold their breath and dive deep in a safe manner. Personally he still aims to reach the 100meter mark.
